For this blog post, I will provide you with a summary of APATS 2019 and highlight some of my biggest takeaways.

This week marked the 87th anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s historic first non-stop solo flight across the US by a female. It simultaneously marked Women’s Equality Day. Both are a great segue into a post and conversation that has long been on my topic list: women in aviation.

It is undeniable that every human being has an environmental responsibility to take care of the planet we live on so that it may sustain itself for future generations to come.

I will be speaking at the Asia Pacific Airline Training Summit in Singapore on Sept. 3 to share how aircraft manufacturers create training programs for their new airplanes. Through this blog I want to provide those of you who will be in attendance with a little preview. I hope that for those who will not be in attendance at APATS, this brief overview will provide some basic understanding.

Since I started flying in 1987, the aviation industry has gone through a significant number of changes. Examples can be found within the realms of technology, operations, city pairs, crew resource management and aircraft usage among others. However, no group has gone through more changes than the ‘approved training organization’ or ATO.

This week in our office and around the world, we have been commemorating one of the greatest technological achievements in human history and in the world of aerospace: 50 years ago, humans set foot on another planetary body than Earth for the first time.
